ANTaR

ANTaR is a small but dynamic organisation representing a grassroots movement of Australians in support of justice, rights and respect for Australia’s First Peoples. 

ANTaR has been working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and leaders on rights and reconciliation issues since 1997. 

ANTaR is an independent, national network of organisations and individuals working in support of Justice, Rights and Respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

ANTaR is an independent non-government organisation and is non-party-political. 

They believe that organisational accountability and transparency is paramount to the success of their work. Therefore they have a systematic commitment to the monitoring of their work against stated outcomes and to conducting impact evaluations in all areas of their work.  

They believe that through this rigour, they will learn to examine assumptions, improve their work practices and extend the impact of their cause.

They actively support the right of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to

self determination. They are committed to social justice and the full realisation of human rights, including those expressed in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous peoples.

They believe in empowerment and community development, speaking up about injustice and inequality and that all Australians have a role to play in achieving an Australia in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' rights as First Peoples are recognised, respected and enjoyed.   
They work in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
They are guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations in setting their campaign priorities and direction.
They partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations.
They seek to amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations.
They build alliances with other organisations and across sectors in support of common goals.
They hold governments to account and advocate for alternative policy solutions based on evidence.
They seek to educate the broader community about justice, rights and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
They work closely with members, State and Territory ANTaRs, and our Campaigns and Advocacy Council.
They work in a way that is accountable and transparent, and have a systematic commitment to monitor and evaluate our work against stated outcomes and conducting impact evaluation of our work.

ANTaR is a national advocacy organisation dedicated specifically to the rights - and overcoming the disadvantage - of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

ANTaR's focus is on changing the attitudes and behaviours of non-Indigenous Australians so that the rights and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are respected and affirmed across all sections of society.

ANTaR persuades governments, through advocacy and lobbying, to show genuine leadership and build cross-party commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander policy issues.

ANTaR works to generate in Australia a moral and legal recognition of, and respect for, the distinctive status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as First Peoples.

ANTaR is a non-government, not-for-profit, community-based organisation with a membership consisting of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people and groups.

ANTaR campaigns nationally on key issues such as Constitutional Recognition, Justice, Close The Gap, Native Title and other key issues.
